Terms of Enrolment

  • Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. We reserve the right to limit or deny enrolment for the benefit of our class as a whole. Siblings of children currently enrolled in our program are given priority on the wait list.
  • All fees are paid at registration. Tuition in the form of ten post-dated cheques, dated September - June and a post-dated deposit cheque in lieu of volunteering are also paid at the time of registration. We do not offer a refund for illness, holidays or absenteeism. Application fees payable at the time of application are non-refundable. Registration fees and all other fees are also non-refundable once enrollment is complete. There are no refunds of tuition after March 1st.
  • We require one month's written notice to withdraw  student from the program. Verbal notices will not be accepted.
  • Please make every effort to bring and pick your child up on time. A ten-minute grace period is provided, however late fees will apply if parents arrive after this time.
  • Parents must accompany their child to the classroom door and wait until a teacher has greeted them. For pick-up, parents must wait near the classroom door, until a teacher has dismissed their child. This is for your child's safety.
  • Children and adults are asked to use "quiet voices" in the hallways and common areas at all times, respecting the work of other students in the school.
  • In an effort to keep everyone healthy, we have a very strict "sick child policy". If your child is not feeling well, please keep your child home until the condition has improved. Please do not bring your child to school if your child has a fever over 98.6F, a contagious rash, bad cough, discharge of discoloured or profuse mucus from the nose or eyes, diarrhea, sore throat, or has vomited within the last 24 hours.
  • If your child will be absent from class, please call the school and when necessary, leave a message on voice mail. If you will be away on holiday for an extended period, please advise the school in writing.
  • The school will provide parents with a monthly lesson plan that highlights our events each month. Our newsletter will also cover themes, cultural events, birthdays, holidays, outings and any special events we have planned.
  • We celebrate various holidays throughout the school year: Halloween, Thanksgiving, Diwali, Ramadan, Hanukkah, Christmas, Chinese New Year, Valentine's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Passover. Within a festive context rather than religious context, our goal is to expose students to a variety of cultures and traditions.
  • Birthdays are celebrated in the classroom. Parents are asked to provide a cake,  cupcakes, ice-cream or fruit platter. Loot bags may be handed out at dismissal. Please note that Montessori & Me is a weapon-free school. We try very hard to promote peace in the classroom and therefore no toy guns, water pistols and/or laser weapons are not permitted at any time. We ask that you do not include them as special birthday treats in your child's loot bags as this can send mixed signals to our young children. We also appreciate paper plates, plastic forks and disposable cups for this occasion.
  • All students share a snack at the end of class. Parents are assigned a snack day on a rotating basis and provided with a list of supplies to purchase. E.g. 24 yogurts, 3 large juice boxes, 12 fresh fruit, a package of baby carrots and a box of rice crackers. The school chooses the snacks and no substitutions may be made. A monthly snack list is provided.
  • Upon arrival, AM students are offered a breakfast snack. AM Parents participate is an AM early snack program.
  • Parents are encouraged to volunteer and assist in the classroom. Please complete and return the appropriate form at the start of the school year.
  • We do not use "time-outs" or any form of corporal punishment. If your child's behaviour is disruptive in class, we will suggest an alternate activity to help redirect  the child. The Practical Life area offers a calming interlude for most students.
  • Your child will be released only into the custody of the person(s) listed on your contact form. Your written permission will be required to release him/her to anyone else.
  • The school will notify you by email and/or telephone if classes are cancelled. This will be done when weather conditions reach minus 30C, or when blizzard conditions make driving unsafe.
  • Our classroom is full of wonderful materials for your child to explore! We ask that the children do not bring electronic devices (Walkmans, Nintendo) to our school.
  • We do not have a computer or television in our classroom. Most children have  exposure to these mediums at home.
  • Montessori & Me is a weapon-free zone. We try very hard to promote peace in the classroom and therefore toy guns, water pistols and laser weapons are not permitted at any time, including 'show and share' days. Please do not include them as special birthday treats in your child's loot bags, as this can send mixed signals to our young children.
  • We practice regular fire drills for safe and quiet exits from our classroom.
  • Please feel free to contact us at any time to discuss your child's progress.
