Communication between home and school is integral to a student's success. Monthly newsletters and notes to home are sent home with your child's work or via email on a regular basis. In January and June, a progress report is presented to parents providing a detailed overview of the work completed by their child at Montessori & Me.
Telephone calls are encouraged and made on an as-needed basis to discuss any concerns that the Directress, teachers or parents may have. Email is responded to daily. Parents may request a conference with teachers to discuss their child's progress at any time.
The school will notify parents by email and/or telephone if classes are cancelled. This is done when weather conditions reach -30C, or when blizzard conditions make driving impossible.
Once lessons begin, voice mail will answer our calls. In case of an emergency, parents are provided with an alternate number (Directress’ cell phone: 780-964-6478).
Student records contain the information provided to us by the parents including the M&M application form, student record form, waivers, parent-preschool agreement, critical incident records, behaviour management reports and any medical information.
We chart the child’s use of the Montessori materials using a standardized form approved by American Montessori International, The American Montessori Society, The Canadian Association of Montessori Teachers and the North American Montessori Teacher's Association. Areas such as Practical Life, Sensorial, Mathematics, Language Arts, Culture and Geography are listed in addition to the materials and extensions we use. They provide a method of tracking the student's academic, social and emotional achievements at school. These charts are very helpful during Parent-Teacher Conferences as parents often seek confirmation that their child is succeeding in school.
The student's information is considered highly confidential and will never be released or shared without the parent's written permission. A copy of your child's Montessori progress records is provided to you at the end of year three or if you transfer to another program. These records prove very useful for elementary teachers.
Observations, if absolutely necessary, may be scheduled through the Directress. Parents are asked to refrain from visiting the classroom during the first sensitive weeks of school when students are still adjusting to classroom routines. One-hour observations may be arranged anytime between October 15th and May 31st, and parents are provided with a handout to maximize the time spent with us.
Parents may access our two webcams using a restricted password. These webcams are for use only by staff and families of students at Montessori & Me. For security, our password changes frequently and any time a family or staff member is no longer a part of the Montessori & Me community.
Parents must provide the school with two email addresses preferably, failing which, at least one reliable email address. Information on classroom events and changes in programming are sent to all parents on the email list. Should classes be cancelled due to weather or an emergency, parents will be notified via email. Montessori & Me does maintain a log of 'sent' emails and is not responsible if an email notfication is not received.
Parents receive a monthly school newsletter, Montessori & Me Buzz. This newsletter contains information on classroom projects and community events.
