Montessori & Me is a child-centered community of three, four and five year old children.  We believe that children thrive in this mixed age grouping where they learn not only from their teachers, but from one another.  In an ideal setting, students begin their Montessori education at 28 - 30 months and remain with the same friends and teachers for three to four years.

We provide an authentic Montessori environment, respecting the young child’s determination for autonomy.  Freedom of movement, exploration and independence are always encouraged.  Students work at their own pace with achievement motivating success.  There is constant interaction, socialization and problem solving.

We have built our reputation on a highly enriched academic curriculum with a strong focus on the Arts and French as a second language.  No subject is taught in isolation as the curriculum is interdisciplinary and interactive.  In addition to our core studies in Math and Language Arts, students receive training from qualified teachers in dance, art, yoga, French and music.  Students also participate in 30 minutes of gym activity each day.

At our school, your child may:

1. •Watch the miracle of a butterfly hatching.
   

2. •Learn to tie a shoe or button a sweater.
   

3. •Perform in a Winter and Spring dance concert.
   

4. •Incubate fertilized eggs and observe as they hatch into chicks or ducklings.
   

5. •Identify and reproduce simple and complex shapes.
   

6. •Participate in themed party days.
   

7. •Learn to plant seeds, work with soil and care for our planet.
   

8. •Set a table and share a snack with a friend.
   

9. •Chart the life cycle and observe as tadpoles turn into frogs.
   

10. •Learn the continents and capitals of major countries.
    

11. •Construct a volcano.
    

12. •Explore the function of a plant’s root system.
    

13. •Learn the alphabet, colours and numbers in English and French.
    

14. •Dress up as a Pirate, Princess or Roman citizen.
    

15. •Identify minute variations in texture, weight and form.
    

16. •Explore famous composers and historical figures.
    

17. •Discuss our solar system; identify planets and stars.
    

18. •Paint, model, sculpt and draw.
    

19. •Run, skip, jump and play familiar childhood games in our large gymnasium or field.
    

20. •Learn to recycle and celebrate Earth Day.
    

21. •Sponsor a child through World Vision, Canada.
    

We are proud of our staff!  Our certified Montessori teachers have achieved specialized and advanced training in the Montessori method.  They are chosen for their love of the preschool child and the ability to create an environment that is warm, engaging and fun.

We view parents as the child’s first teacher.  Ongoing communication between home and school is encouraged and maintained through notes to home, monthly newsletters and school emails.  We are the only Montessori preschool in Edmonton with webcams in our classroom.  Parents may log on at any time using a restricted password to see their child at work and play.
